Vivi Zhu is a Chinese-born documentary filmmaker, artist, and social entrepreneur. Zhu’s interdisciplinary work explores the symbiosis relationship between the social-political environment and the performability of human experience. Her work playfully and subversively inverts the makeshift cultural identity through a practice-led research approach. Zhu has covered stories across Cuba, China, and the UAE. As a director, her documentaries have been broadcasted on NHK Japan, and Al Jazeera, and screened in many film festivals. As an artist, she has won the Jean Claude Christo award and exhibited in Bayt AlMamzar, Spacemium Videoannle, etc. Her co-founded NGO that enhances migrant worker children’s Social Emotional learning through art education has served more than 200 children in 5 major cities and has partnered with Byte Dance. She graduated from New York University with double majors in Film and New Media, Art and Art History. Currently, she is pursuing her MFA in Tokyo University of the Arts.
